The Classic White Shirt

Here's the deal. The classic white shirt, spread collar not buttondown is a mandatory staple in the gentleman's wardrobe. Here are a few tips:

1. Buy the best one that you can. Even better, get it custom made. That way the measurements are more precise and you can choose a high quality cloth. Egyptian cotton, high thread count, avoid patterns.

2. Buy one that has a long tail so that it stays tucked in and doesn't blouse.

3. Have the shirt hand washed and hand finished by someone who knows how to iron a shirt (not your mother). When you get it back keep the plastic over the shirt so that it remains free of dirt and dust. Oh and make certain to keep it out of the light.

4. Shave long before you put the shirt on to make certain that you don't have any bleeders. That's the last thing you need before rushing out the door.

5. Wear a crew neck tee shirt underneath and opt for an expensive one not the ones that you get 10 for $10 at the discount store. Why? The white shirt will lay better, look better and will not show perspiration stains. Kinda spoils the impact if you've got large yellow circles under your arms.

6. While you're at buy two of those bad boys so you can wear one of them more frequently. Try it with jeans when you're going out with her in the afternoon. It just reeks of style and elegance. Oh, one more thing, tuck it in
