R.I.P. Messenger Bags

Maybe it's a little strong to say that the messenger bag is dead.  They're still damned useful and many are, well, damned stylish too.  But are we still trying to cut that dashing look by jumping on the train with an overstuffed bag or worse by carrying two bags?  It doesn't say confidence.

A well crafted briefcase does.  It screams confidence because its shows your transparency.  You're serious.  You've got work to do.  And you carry your work and your tools in style.

Oh, and it says definitively that you're all grown up now.  All the major houses have them.  As always, opt for quality and go with leather.  Let the dudes on the floor below with the three series roll with the canvas.

10 Rules for Men's Business Casual Attire

When the invitation reads business casual, you have an opportunity.  The chance to style up while not standing out.  The point is not so much to be noticed.  Rather to show that you have it together.  Quality always makes a statement especially when dressing down.

Rule 1:   Do not wear a suit and do not wear a suit jacket with casual pants.
Rule 2:   Wear a sportcoat.  You can always take it off once you arrive.  A gentleman always wear a jacket.
Rule 3:   In winter, wear a sweater, V-neck is perfect, and so is cashmere.
Rule 4:   No you can't wear jeans.
Rule 5:   Flat-front pants, no cuff. Anything by Scott Barber.
Rule 6:   Buy a shirt that fits and please, please, please tuck it in.
Rule 7:   No sneakers, sorry, invest in really good shoes.
Rule 8:   Wear a good belt.
Rule 9:   Detail with a scarf, leather bracelet, sports watch.
Rule:10  Contrast colors to add a bit of spark.

Remember, it's not about how you look.  It's about how you will be seen.  It speaks to confidence.  And if you want to really do it well call Scott Peterson at Players in Denver and he'll take care of you.  I promise

No more Isotoner. No more Isotoner. No more Isotoner

From those style hounds over at GQ Magazine and that great NYC shop Steven Alan (http://www.stevenalan.com/) we could not agree more.  Please ditch and re-gift those stretchy one size fits all things your dear grandmother got you.  Tell her the dog eat them. Tell her they were stolen. Tell her anything.  Just get these.  They look good.  They feel good.  And unlike dear old grandma they even smell good

Some Spyders are very cool

Sure you can tool around town on a scooter if you want to. Save gas, carry a man bag, look European and all that. But why? Brought to you by the same folks that make Sea-Doo's and Ski-Doo's these road warriors put a new shift in open road freedom and are just bad-ass fun.

GQ's Abbey Road Collection for 2009

It was 1969 and John, Paul, Ringo and George knew that this was to be their last album. What they didn’t know was that Abbey Road would become one of the greatest albums of all time and that the cover would become perhaps the most well know of album covers ever.
Did you know that the cover photgrapher Ian MacMillan had only 10 minutes to shoot the picture. So at 11:30 in the more he took that famous click of the Beatles walking across the zebra crossing outside the studio. That was in 1969. Nearly 40 years later GQ’s own photographer Chance Buell took our Wazee Street version of Abbey Road at 11:30 in the morning.
Our Creative Director, Crystal Hass took her inspiration from that iconic album to design our first collection of men men’s hair design men’s hair styles for 2009. While Beatles had their differences in 1969 with themselves, with each other and with the world, they came together to produce a very strong, solid album. And so it is with this collection.
There is weight and texture and a decidedly square orientation of these designs that add strength to the male presentation. Strength to get through adversity and uncertainty that is with men today and was with the Beatles 40 years ago. Have a look.

The Classic White Shirt

Here's the deal. The classic white shirt, spread collar not buttondown is a mandatory staple in the gentleman's wardrobe. Here are a few tips:

1. Buy the best one that you can. Even better, get it custom made. That way the measurements are more precise and you can choose a high quality cloth. Egyptian cotton, high thread count, avoid patterns.

2. Buy one that has a long tail so that it stays tucked in and doesn't blouse.

3. Have the shirt hand washed and hand finished by someone who knows how to iron a shirt (not your mother). When you get it back keep the plastic over the shirt so that it remains free of dirt and dust. Oh and make certain to keep it out of the light.

4. Shave long before you put the shirt on to make certain that you don't have any bleeders. That's the last thing you need before rushing out the door.

5. Wear a crew neck tee shirt underneath and opt for an expensive one not the ones that you get 10 for $10 at the discount store. Why? The white shirt will lay better, look better and will not show perspiration stains. Kinda spoils the impact if you've got large yellow circles under your arms.

6. While you're at buy two of those bad boys so you can wear one of them more frequently. Try it with jeans when you're going out with her in the afternoon. It just reeks of style and elegance. Oh, one more thing, tuck it in

All Wrapped up

Now that's a scarf.

From The Sartorialist, this is how you wear the scarf. And man check out that blue jacket. Casual but definately stylin'

Cat Tales

Personally I'm not all that fond of furry felines. but these two cats can come over and tell tall tales any time.
